Research at sea - Aalborg University embarks Victoria Kosan
As part of J. Lauritzen’s participation in the Blue INNOship initiative, two guests from Aalborg university joined the crew of Victoria Kosan on a voyage from Tarragona, Spain to Sines in Portugal.
The Blue INNOship partnership is the largest maritime innovation project in Denmark, through which J. Lauritzen actively engages in a work group seeking to develop an industry standard for performance monitoring to promote more energy-efficient operations and thereby reduce emissions.
During a four-day visit, Mr. Niels Gorm Rytter, Associate Professor and Assistant Ms. Beizen Jia from Aalborg University, which is also a partner on the project, stayed onboard Victoria Kosan, during which time they had the opportunity to get an understanding of work onboard and learn about the typical operation of a gas carrier in relation to fuel efficiency, data sources, support tools as well as the daily life as part of a crew.
While onboard, Mr. Rytter and Ms. Jia along with the Master and Crew on board Victoria Kosan conducted a number of sea trials for the purpose of gaining insight into how we can achieve more accurate and in-time data from the vessels.
”Overall, the trip, the vessel as well as the captain and his skilled, organised, hardworking and friendly crew with a lot of team spirit, made a big impression on us” says Niels Gorm Rytter, and concludes “The trip also gave us a firsthand glimpse of the challenges faced everyday onboard a vessel and left us with a lot of respect for the somehow tough life of seafarers.”
